It comes in 3 forms: as sulphate, as hydrochloride and as N-Acetyl Glucosamine or NAG. NAG is the form in which glucosamine exists as part of the connective tissue. As a supplement it has several advantages over the other forms. After absorption it remains for a long time in the blood to provide a steady supply of glucosamine while the other forms are rapidly metabolised, and up to 50% are converted into glucose for energy. Personal observations have shown excellent success when used for osteoarthritis, especially in combination with MSM (mehtylsulfonylmethane). Medical/scientific research also has shown unexpected benefits with other conditons. In models of auto-immune diseases, NAG normalized T-cell function and prevented development of paralysis in MS and high blood glucose levels in Type 1 diabetes.
