Olive
leaf is used to kill a wide range of microbes. The active ingredient is oleuropein. Up to 1000 mg of oleuropein
daily may be used as part of an anti-microbial program but no harmful effect has been observed with higher amounts.
It is especially useful as part of the Ultimate Cleanse, or during infections, or with cancer and autoimmune
diseases when MMS cannot be used in sufficiently high amounts.
It has antioxidant properties and appears to be beneficial with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, as well as some
musculo-skeletal conditions like Fibromyalgia. It may also lower high blood pressure, improve heart function and
blood circulation, and prevent LDL cholesterol from being oxidized.
Dried olive leaf has about 30 mg of oleuropein/g. As the tea is rather bitter it is now more common to use olive
leaf extract. In powder form, olive leaf extract commonly has 200 - 220 mg/g of oleuropein. Therefore, for a strong
anti-microbial effect, you may use 1 - 5 g of olive leaf extract daily, providing 200 - 1000 mg of oleuropein.
No toxicity for olive leaf extract or oleuropein has been reported. Oleuropein is so safe, the investigators failed
to determine the lethal dose (LD50) or the toxic dose. Tests showed that olive leaf extract does not kill the
healthy lactobacteria in our intestines.
Elenolic acid, one of the hydrolysis products of oleuropein, destroys or inhibits the growth of many kinds of
roundworm, hookworm, tapeworm and flatworm parasites, in addition to bacteria, viruses and fungi. Olive leaf
extract is also widely used by HIV and AIDS patients.
